Beach

Calluna cottage is in the small seaside village of Rockcliffe.

Calluna is on a private road and its lawn meets the sea at its own private shore, perfect for sunbathing, paddling or evening barbecues. Just 50 metres away, Rockcliffe’s sandy beach is ideal for families and especially for young children – you can even buy ice-creams, tea and cake!

Rockcliffe’s beach is great for swimming, sand castles, crabbing, rock-pooling or just messing about.

And when the tide goes out, the sand flats stretch for miles! Rough Island, a small bird sanctuary owned by the National Trust, is 250 metres offshore and becomes accessible for a few hours.

There are some great short family walks on the National Trust land around Rockcliffe, over local hills and forests, with outstanding views over the sea. Take the Jubilee path for a half an hour walk around the coast to the village of Kippford, which has pubs, a shop, café, boat club, and RNLI station.

Note that all these photos are from our own family holidays!
