There are plenty of thing to do locally for adults or for families with young children or teenagers. Here are a few of our favourites:

• Mabie Farm Park – especially for younger kids
• Cream ‘o Galloway – great fun and great ice cream!
• Galloway Activity Centre – sailing, windsurfing, kayaking etc
• Horse Riding
• Laggan Outdoor Centre – one of Europe’s longest zipwires, Segway, archery, water balling etc
• Threave Castle & Gardens – outstanding National Trust gardens and castle
• Kirkudbright – a lively fishing port and “art town”, with beautiful architecture and NTS Broughton House, exhibitions and events all year round.
• Castle Douglas – designated “Food Town”, shops, restaurant, cafes and take-aways as well as a beautiful parkland and lake
• Drumlanrig Castle – one of Britain’s grandest castles
• Bird watching – RSPB Mersehead is just a 10 minute drive, Caerlaverock is a spectacular day out to see nationally important wild fowl reserves.
